Yeshiva College has always been more than a school. It is a place of learning, Torah, friendship and community, but above all, it is a home. For generations, children have entered its gates and left as confident young adults, carrying with them the values, relationships and Jewish identity that will accompany them throughout their lives.
As Yeshiva College enters an exciting new chapter, Rabbi Daniel Kaplan, the newly appointed Rabbi of the Schools, and Michael Sassoon, the new Chair of the Board of Governors, share a vision rooted in the school’s enduring values and focused firmly on its future.
Rabbi Kaplan captures its essence simply: “This is our home.”
At the heart of Yeshiva College is a belief that education is about far more than results. We are immensely proud of our academic achievements, sporting successes and the many accomplishments of our pupils. Yet the true measure of a Yeshiva College education is found in the people our children become.
“Education is about building individuals and ultimately about building the future of the Jewish people,” says Rabbi Kaplan.
Our ambition is to develop the whole child: young people who are academically capable, grounded in Torah, connected to Israel and Am Yisrael, confident in their Jewish identity, and committed to contributing positively to the world.
We see this across the school, from
children embracing opportunities for Torah learning and matric pupils balancing academic demands with meaningful Jewish growth, to learners excelling on the sports field while demonstrating exemplary derech eretz in their daily interactions. At Yeshiva College, achievement and character belong together.
At the foundation of Yeshiva College are three enduring ideals: Torah, Unity and Israel.
Torah remains, in Michael’s words, our “true north”. Yeshiva College is also home to a wonderfully broad community, united by a commitment to Jewish continuity and education. In an increasingly fragmented world, our school has an important role in helping to “hold the centre”, creating a community where shared values and belonging unite us.
Our connection to Israel and Am Yisrael is equally integral. Many of our learners continue their Torah journey in Israel during a gap year at yeshivot and midrashot, deepening their learning and building a lifelong connection to Torah and Eretz Yisrael. Across the world, our alumni contribute as educators, professionals, entrepreneurs, rabbis, rebbetzins, and communal leaders.
The impact of that foundation can be seen in the remarkable journeys of our alumni. On 9 August, our community was privileged to welcome Rabbi Ira Kosowsky and Rabbi Doron Perez for the launch of their new book, DMC: The Shema. Rabbi Perez, a former Head Boy of Yeshiva College, has gone on to become the first rabbi to serve as President of the World Zionist Organization, a position previously held by figures including Theodor Herzl, David Ben-Gurion and Chaim Weizmann. His journey from Yeshiva College to one of the most significant leadership positions in the Jewish world is a powerful example of the possibilities that can begin within our school.
There is tremendous energy around Yeshiva College’s future. Artificial intelligence, technology and new ways of learning are transforming education. Our vision is to embrace these opportunities while remaining firmly anchored in the timeless values that define us.
As we look towards 2032 and beyond, parents, educators, leadership and the wider community will play an important role in shaping the next chapter. Strong leadership, excellent teaching, and meaningful partnership with parents will remain central to the educational experience we offer.
This commitment extends beyond our educational vision to the environment in which our children learn, grow and thrive. Exciting plans are underway to rejuvenate the Yeshiva College and Yeshiva Mizrachi campus, creating a physical environment that supports this vision.
Michael emphasises, “As we invest in the future of our campus, we remain focused on what matters most: investing in the future of our children.”
That is what the Yeshiva College experience is ultimately about: the child who discovers a love of learning, the pupil who develops a meaningful relationship with Torah, and the graduate who leaves our gates confident to engage with the world while remaining deeply connected to who they are.
We have inherited an extraordinary legacy. Our opportunity now is to ensure that Yeshiva College continues to evolve while remaining true to the values that have shaped it.
